LOPE DE VEGA daughters shine as 2,3 in G1 E.P. Taylor Stakes

An international elite field of three-year-old and older fillies and mares broke for a 2000 metres trip around the Woodbine oval in the $720k G1 720.000 E. P. Taylor Stakes at 10.35 pm German time tonight, among them two LOPE DE VEGA mares who did their sire proud with their phantastic performances. Equipped with blinkers for the first time, German-bred KALIFORNIA QUEEN went straight to the lead to set the pace and take the field into the final straight where she fiercely dueled Mutamakina when LA DRAGONTEA came flying from the back of the pack. The three mares delivered in a thrilling finish with LA DRAGONTEA beating KALIFORNIA QUEEN, who as a G2 winner in Germany (photo) to third place by a whiff only a neck behind the winner. Both mares showed their best career performances yet in this G1 contest, leaving nothing but positive anticipation for their future paths.
