Derby hopeful WALDKONIG earns Black Type on annual debut

After a long six-months break since his winning debut last December, WALDGEIST's half-brother WALDKONIG had his first annual outing today at Newmarket in the Exchange Free Bet Streak Newmarket Stakes, a Listed challenge for three-year-olds run over 2000m. The Kingman colt, who like his famous older brother races in the colours of Gestut Ammerland & Newsells Park Stud, ran a solid race and was only narrowly beaten to third place behind a winner who had come off a fresh victory. Frankie Dettori was aboard WALDKONIG for trainer John Gosden, who has the colt pointed to the G1 2020 Epsom Derby in four weeks.
