PLACE DU CARROUSEL by LOPE DE VEGA put an impressive performance on display in today's €80,000 Prix de Cleopatre to record her first Stakes win and put herself in contention for the French classic for fillies, the €1 million Gr.1 Prix de Diane held in June. Trained by Andre Fabre for Al Shaqab Racing & Ballylinch Stud, the three-year-old had Mickael Barzalona on board, who settled her in the back of the field for a long time from where she shifted up a gear in the final straight almost as if on cue. PLACE DU CARROUSEL roared past the field in the long straight of Saint-Cloud and had a three quarters of a length advantage after 2100 metres.
