Two group wins for LOPE DE VEGA down under

Flemington's raceday around the G1 Australian Cup today turned out to be a great success for rising sire LOPE DE VEGA whose progeny won two of the five group races run in the early morning hours German time. Successful in New Zealand at G2 level before transfering to Australia, SPANISH WHISPER booked her first full point at this level with a gutsy performance in the AUS$200,000 Kewney Stakes over 1400 m. Dwayne Dunn took the three-year-old filly through a thrilling finish to run down Victory Kingdom by a neck. Only one hour later, six-year-old SPANISH REEF proved her talent over the mile when she scored big in the G3 Schweppervescence Trophy for the second time following a win in 2018. Mark Zahra was in the saddle of the mare who, like SPANISH WHISPERER, is pointed to the G1 Coolmore Legacy Stakes next month.
